BENTON – Charlene Shirley Sawyer, 88, of Benton, passed away on July 27, 2024, at her home.

She was born on October 4, 1935, in Du Quoin, IL to Bill and Lola (Eakin) Owens. She married Ron Sawyer and he survives of Benton.

She is also survived by her step-sons, Chris Sawyer of Benton and Chad Sawyer of Ewing; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kenny Owens; one sister, Delores Owens; and one brother, Richard Owens.

She loved to garden and take care of her flowers, antiquing, flea markets, and rummage sales and was a huge follower of Jesus Christ.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bell Cemetery in Iuka, IL, with Brother Larry Cook officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be at Bell Cemetery in Iuka, IL.
