CARBONDALE – Carbondale Police responded around 10:40 Wednesday morning to East Main Street near Reed Station Road to a report of a juvenile in the roadway.

Police say while officers responded, other department personnel accessed the surveillance cameras in the area and saw that the juvenile was placing himself in great danger by walking in the roadway across several lanes of traffic with vehicles moving at high rates of speed.

The first responding officer found the juvenile on the far side of the roadway and out of traffic. The officer determined the juvenile suffered from a condition that placed him in danger. The officer was able to identify and contact the juvenile’s parents, who did not realize the juvenile had left home. The juvenile was returned to his parents safe and in good health and there are no criminal charges associated with the incident.

The police department is very appreciative of the citizens who reported the child in the roadway and the officers’ responsive actions.
