MURPHYSBORO – A man has been sentenced in Jackson County to 14 years in prison for a February stabbing in Carbondale.

The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office says 21-year-old Cody Simon of Carbondale will serve 85 percent of his sentence. He will serve three years of mandatory supervised release following his time behind bars.

Simon pleaded guilty earlier this year to attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing incident that happened in the 900 block of East Park Street just after midnight on Feb. 21. He stabbed the victim several times during a personal dispute.

Carbondale Police arrived and found the victim with several stab wounds, which were serious. Police rendered aid until an ambulance arrived to take the victim to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Later that day police took Simon into custody as a suspect in the stabbing.
