GRAND TOWER – One person was killed, and another was taken to jail following an UTV crash in Jackson County late Saturday night.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just before midnight in the area of Front Street and 25th Avenue along the levee in Grand Tower.

Thirty-six-year-old Rusty W. Huffman was driving the UTV with three passengers on board when it overturned while traversing the levee. They were 29-year-old Kayle L. Clover of Gorham, 31-year-old Nicholas A. Bastien of Murphysboro and 38-year-old Sara N. Bolter of Murphysboro.

Bolter sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office. Bastien was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries. Huffman was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Huffman was lodged in the Jackson County Jail after being released from the hospital.

Complaints were submitted to the Jackson County State’s Attorney for Aggravated DUI, Reckless Driving and Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the crash.
