VIENNA – You can drink the water again in Vienna.

City officials announced Tuesday that multiple water samples taken by Illinois EPA showed the water safe to consume. The city has been flushing lines and said a boil water order was not needed. The Do Not Drink Water order was lifted.

The city learned Friday that the water wasn’t safe to drink after the Illinois EPA detected a toxic algae bloom during routine testing.

Residents were told they could use the water for bathing, laundry and cleaning dishes, but not for cooking or for pets.

The city has provided bottled water to residents over the last several days.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office told elderly residents and those who could not get out to call them in order to find someone to deliver water to them.
