HERRIN – A Monday afternoon fire at the former West Side School in Herrin is under investigation.

Herrin Fire called in several area fire departments for assistance with the blaze.

According to the Fire Department Incidents Facebook page, the school has been abandoned for over 10 years and the owners say they have been dealing with squatters for several years.

The building did not have power at time of the fire.
