SPRINGFIELD – Two area schools are among several in Illinois receiving part of $40,000 in grants awarded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Conservation Foundation for Illinois Schoolyard Habitat Action Projects.

The Christopher Unit School District will receive $1,994 for a pollinator garden project for 9th through 12th grades.

Trinity Christian School in Carbondale will get $1,120 for a pollinator garden project for 2nd through 5th grades.

The Illinois Schoolyard Habitat Action Grant program supports the development or enhancement of wildlife habitat on school grounds or other public places. Funding is provided through donations to the ICF.

Nearly $394,000 in grant funding has been distributed since the program’s inception.
