CARBONDALE – A Metairie, Louisiana man is facing gun charges following a report of a traffic crash and shots fired in the 300 block of East Grand Avenue Friday night.
Carbondale Police say 28-year-old Mohommad J. Muhammad was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.
Around 8:50 p.m., SIU’s Department of Public Safety along with Carbondale Police responded to the crash, detained several people at the scene and confirmed no injuries were reported or seen.
During the investigation, officers found damage to one of the crashed vehicles that was the result of gunfire. A handgun was recovered. Officers learned that the event stemmed from a road rage incident that started on South Illinois Avenue between parties who did not know one another. Three vehicles were involved.
Police arrested one of the involved parties, who was Muhammad, and charged him with the offenses we mentioned. All other parties were released without charges.Â
