WEST FRANKFORT – Jim Hawkins, 84, of West Frankfort passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at his residence at 9:30 a.m.
Jim was born May 19, 1940, in West Frankfort to John and Gilda (Kerley) Hawkins. He was a member of the UMWA and a U.S. Army veteran. Jim loved cars, estate sales, grilling, and he was a good carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merinda Hawkins; parents, sister, Gloria Grimes; grandmother, Jessie Muldoon; and sister-in-law, Marsha Horsley.
Jim is survived by his son, Clint (Lori) Hawkins; step-son, Leonard (Elaine) Neatherlin; companion, Shirley Overturf; half-brother, Eddie (Janice) Peterman; step-daughter, Ronnie Reed; brother-in-law, Cletus “Chip” Horsley; grandchildren, Wesley and Willow Hawkins, Ashley Burton, and Blake Neatherlin; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday, February 28, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday March 1, from 9-11 a.m. at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 1961 of Orient and Zeigler Post 177.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home. Jim’s request is for everyone to wear their favorite show attire.
