JOHNSTON CITY – A wanted felon was recently caught entering Williamson County with drugs and a gun.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says on Aug. 3, deputies developed intelligence concerning the location and activities of Dakota A. Holmes. Holmes was wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants – two out of Williamson County for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and one out of Franklin County for Methamphetamine Possession.

Holmes left West Frankfort at 1 p.m. that day traveling rural roads and entered Williamson County. He was seen at the intersection of Herrin Road and Collins Road, just west of Johnston City.

Deputies had knowledge that Holmes was armed with a handgun, was driving on a suspended driver’s license, and had a history of jumping out of vehicles during traffic stops and fleeing from law enforcement.

Around 1:30 p.m., Holmes committed multiple traffic violations at the intersection of Herrin Road and Prosperity Road prior to turning southbound.

As Holmes traveled south, several deputies converged to affect a vehicle stop causing the suspect vehicle to come to rest in a driveway in the 14000 block of Prosperity Road.

Holmes was ordered out of the vehicle and unsuccessfully used the fictitious name “Cody” in an attempt to evade capture.

A search of Holmes located a glass pipe containing residue and a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance which later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

A search of the vehicle located a loaded silver .22 caliber semiautomatic handgun concealed between the driver’s seat and center console.

Holmes was cited for Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony), Unlawful Use or Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony), Methamphetamine Possession (Class 3 Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor), Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended (Class A Misdemeanor), No Valid Driver’s License (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle (Class A Misdemeanor), Operating Uninsured Vehicle, Disobey Stop Sign, and Improper Turn Signal.
